Julie London - Julie Is Her Name
Julie London - Julie Is Her Name
Classic smouldering torchlight songs. Just one of the all-time jazz vocal pop albums. It’s amazing how stripped down this album is, the only backing instrumentation is Barney Kessel on guitar and Ray Leatherwood on bass.
That minimalism creates intimacy. And London more than fills up the sparse arrangements with the richness of her vocal performance. Breathy sensuous crooning.
There’s such a palpable eroticism to this recording. I can’t imagine how this must have sounded to people in 1955.
